Well, it all goes back to the year 2008, There was a lot of attention in April when the Nissan GT-R did a lap of the Nurburgring in 7:29.
Obviously, it took the automotive industry by a storm..No one was ready to believe that Nissan could do that. There was applause and there was also some doubt in the minds of the blokes at Porsche…
The point is that Nissan has finally decided to bring the GT-R to India, and i am very pleased with their decision but the question is “Will people buy it?”. When Sachin Tendulkar bought one, people said’ What an idiot, he sold his Ferrari just to buy a Nissan?? like really?’ And i wasn’t very surprised with their reactions as i knew that in a country like India where most people go after brands and do not consider any car as a supercar until its a Ferrari,a Lamborghini or a Porsche for that matter…
The thing is though, a person who wants to show off will buy a Ferrari or a Lamborghini but, a person who really wants to drive will buy a GT-R and people will say” but, it’s not a Ferrari!!” A person who is interested in driving will value the fact that its build in a hermetically sealed factory and that only four people in this whole world are allowed to build the GT-R or that each gearbox is specifically made for a particular engine and it won’t work in any other GT-R and also the fact that Lord Ganesh also had one and he once said”Nothing is quicker of the line than a GT-R”.
Its an amazing car a genuine masterpiece…but the sad part is that although its one of the best cars the world has ever seen, it just won’t be that much popular here in India as the buyer here would say”Why should I spend my hard earned money on a car which is made by the people who make the Datsun?” and to an extent they are right and that’s all because Nissan had never really tried to improve its image and this mistake will cost them when a person would drive past their showroom in a Porsche 911 or an Audi R8.
But, the one who wants to show the world that he is a keen driver will surely buy one…
